National Diploma or B. Degree in Mining  

Mine overseer certificate of competency

Must have an opencast blasting ticket 

Minimum 5-10 years’ experience in open cast mining environment of which at least 2 years was at Production Manager level.

Must have proven experience with open pit heavy equipment fleet and open pit operations and mechanically inclined

Thorough experience in drilling, blasting, loading, hauling and pit dewatering

Candidates must have a valid driver’s license

Excellent verbal and written communication in English 

Computer literate

Must be medically fit and pass a medical examination as required from the designated mines

Ability to work under pressure and to meet strict deadlines as determined by the supervisor

Must possess basic problem solving, basic self-management

Duties & Responsibility:

Health, Safety and Environment:

Complies with the Mine Health and Safety Act as well as company policies and procedures


Assists with the drawing up of business strategy and budget formulation

Ensure optimal production of mining and plant

Achieve productivity targets


Ensure correct allocation of resources e.g., labour and equipment

Allocate/withhold funds as dictated by operational requirements

Labour management:

Define labour structure and ensure vacancies are filled within reasonable time

Review subordinates’ performances quarterly according to their respective KPIs

Approval and monitor of overtime in maintenance department based on Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA) requirement

Manage leave schedule

Take good care of customer vehicles and property, using fender and seat covers at all times, and driving safely when testing vehicles.

This employee will assist with the development and implementation of food franchisee businesses.

The job requires extensive travelling in the Free State and Northern Cape, ± 5 000 km per month, and also requires sleep-outs.

The basic salary is negotiable and will be determined according to experience.

A Pension fund will be offered, plus Company car, Petrol card and sleep-out allowance
