A well-established national retail group with a footprint of almost 100 branches across South Africa is seeking to appoint an experienced Chief Operating Officer (COO) to lead and oversee its nationwide operations.
This role is suited to a highly seasoned retail executive with extensive experience in large-scale, high-volume grocery retail environments.
Candidates from the clothing or furniture retail sector will not be considered.

Desired Experience & Requirements:
- 20+ years’ senior management experience within large-scale retail operations
- Proven track record in regional or national operational leadership
- Extensive experience within grocery retail environments essential
- Demonstrated ability to lead high-volume, multi-branch operations
- Background from major national retailers such as Checkers, Shoprite, Pick n Pay, Clicks, or Dis-Chem will be highly advantageous
- Strong people leadership, performance management, and operational execution skills
- Valid driver’s license and own reliable vehicle
- Willingness and ability to travel extensively nationwide
Key Responsibilities will include:
- Provide full operational leadership and oversight of the business nationwide
- Lead, manage, and develop regional and operational leadership teams
- Direct oversight of approximately 10 senior managers, including 5 Operations Managers nationally
- Indirect responsibility for approximately 700 employees across the group
- Drive consistent operational standards, controls, and performance excellence across all branches
- Ensure alignment of operational strategy with business objectives, profitability, and growth
- Maintain strong on-the-ground presence through frequent national travel
- Identify operational risks and opportunities, implementing improvements where required
