JOB PURPOSE:
Manage all aspects of crop production and irrigation (Pivot Irrigation)

Salary:

R30 000 – R40 000 Basic, depending on experience

Minimum Requirements:

• Relevant degree in Agriculture
• 5 years’ experience in crop production
• Strong knowledge of forage crops, soil science, and sustainable farming practices.
• Proven ability with: Pivot Irrigation
• Proven leadership experience in managing diverse teams and large-scale operations.
• Monitor and track crop progress, making strategic decisions to improve yields and quality;
• Fluent in English and Afrikaans (Speak, Read and Write)
• Valid driver’s license and own reliable vehicle

Duties & Responsibilities: 

• Manage all aspects of crop production, including soil management, planting, soil analysis, leaf analysis, irrigation and harvesting of 500 ha for Maize silage, Sunflower, Pastures and Pecan trees under irrigation.
• Work closely with senior leadership to develop long-term strategies for sustainable farming practices and growth;
• Overseeing all aspects of crop production from soil preparation to harvesting.
• Manage irrigation schedules and water resources effectively to optimize crop growth and yield.
• Conduct leaf and soil analysis of crops, utilizing the data for optimal nutrient management, innovative crop rotation and soil fertility.
• Manage the application of agrochemicals in compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
• Implement precision agriculture techniques and sustainable farming practices for optimum profitability.
• Facilitate the harvesting/silage of crops and manage post- harvest processes.
• Oversee mechanical maintenance to ensure the proper functioning of farming and irrigation equipment.
• Ensure compliance with all agricultural regulations and environmental practices;
• Ensure implementation and management of compliance audits and systems;
• Manage budgets, resources, and equipment to maintain efficient farm operations;
• General maintenance of the farm
• Lead financial planning activities, including the preparation of cash flows and management of irrigation budgets to ensure effective strategy and resource allocation.
• Manage and lead a team of employees, including junior section managers, foremen to ensure smooth operations and goal attainment.
